Here in Vientiane, my quest for music venues continues. We found this posh pizzeria by the Meckong river owned by a Lao French. “Good evening Alexia, and lovely citizen of Vientiane… It’s actually pronounced Vien-Jun, right?” After my usual greeting, my guitar strings blend with the breeze from Thailand across the river.
Together with Miguel’s brushing, these days I open my set with the endless finger picking intro of “Daydream”, the song that took me five years to finally finish on this trip.
“Hey, can you play Stairway to Heaven or Hotel California?!” Every musician has to take some blow when starting out. Like this macho gentleman with his Lao girlfriend, two drunken Farangs didn’t particularly like this skinny Asian guy playing smooth guitar and singing and talking in fluent English.
Miguel, ever-amazing Brazilian architect learned how to brush and play flute to my songs in just a week
And Carlos with Spanish rap never played harmonica until a couple of days ago
Friends from Vang Vieng’s organic farm have reunited here in the capital, welcome to the Panic Farm, please fasten seat belts, emergency exits are located that way, remain seated and do not panic, just lay down the mangos!
April 27th, acoustic show at CCC Folk Bar. Great interior design and great collection of music and DVD’s, just two weeks old. “Next year when you come back, please let me know so I can make flyers and advertise.” says the owner Tak.
Thank you Vientiane, thank you Laos, I will most definitely come back. But for now, I’m going back to Thailand tomorrow.
