Chapter 27: Buddhism vs. Tourism

Buddhism has been around for more than 2500 years, with hundreds of millions of followers all over the world, particularly in Asia.

its teaching, Dharma, has led many to life of simplicity without greed and possession, thus freed so many from physical, materialistic, emotional and mental sufferings.

Sangha, schools of practitioners who desire to follow steps of the lord Buddha, are required to shave their heads and let go of all the possessions, and live on what’s given by the followers

practitioners have to learn the eight precepts, in which you refrain from killing, improper speech, and intoxicating alcohol and drugs…

you also refrain from taking what’s not yours, erotic behaviors, and taking untimely meals

and you must refrain from use of garlands, perfumes and personal adornment, and dancing, singing, music and watching grotesque mime

all these rules and structured simplicity is believed to lead you to Nirvana

and many pays ultimate respect to those who practice Dharma, as they can also receive enlightenment

And then there is Tourism, a relatively new religion with some 50 years of history or less, yet extremely fast growing and spreading all over the world

no-one is really sure who is the prophet who started, or where it’s originated. But it’s commonly known amongs all the followers that it requires you to carry a camera, and though their bibles vary, ‘Lonely Planet’ is recommended as their book of doctrine

there is no church or temple for Tourism, neither is there any town or city originates Tourism, however you are allowed to practice tourism in other religious buildings and structures together with followers and practitioners of other religions. And it is strongly recommended that you practice it somewhere far away from home, in fact it is believed impossible to practice Tourism in your own house

shaving your head is also an option, but not mandatory

Tourism does not discriminate other religions. You can be a follower of any religion to practice Tourism. above is a Buddhist practicing Tourism.

‘taking pictures of the sunset instead of watching it’ is one of their mantras, a Tourist named Toshiro Yamaguchi wrote it in BE.2549 (AD.2006). As long as you keep your eyes fixed on the back of your camera, undisturbed by the reality in front of it, you are expected to receive the enlightenment in your myspace or facebook page.

Hey! Toshiro! dB here - glad you have exposed the newest facet of the ultimate western religion, Consumerism. Tourism is but one of the many paths to the ultimate state of total immersion in illusion, if used to that end. On the other hand, even the Bodhisattvas went on the road. I really like your blog and will spend more time looking back into the previous chapters.

Lemeknow when you plan on returning to NYC.

As you enjoy your happy trails and bright paths walk tall, open your mind and carry your own baggage...
